Level 3: Recovery & Winching

4x4 Winching and Recovery Training Courses

Created for specialists within organisations, our 4×4 Off-Road Recovery and Winching Operations courses cater for novice winch users to operators who are working in extreme environments. Whether your winches are used for moving objects or vehicles, operators will learn how to recover both themselves and others safely and effectively, as well as risk assess the movement of objects, whether you work with trees in watercourses, boats, trailers or simply cable pulling through pipes.

Training can be provided for vehicle mounted and hand winches, and our instructors have experience with electric drum, hand and capstan winches.

Vehicle recovery courses are run from our Devon site where we get vehicles stuck! Work can include self-recovery techniques such as introducing grip materials and digging, exhaust jacks as well as the use of hand-operated and vehicle mounted winches. Where necessary, we can provide training to emergency response personnel in the use of KINETIC straps.

Attention is paid to safe working practices in regard to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).

We can run the BORDA course for up to four candidates per day, and recommend that for PUWER and LOLER familiarisation purposes that candidates are trained using the recovery equipment they will be equipped with. Where necessary, we can provide equipment to cover a range of situations, along with advice on the purchase of specialist kit.
